A brief history of The 95^th Bomb Group Memorials Foundation

The 95th Bomb Group (H) began as a part of the massive Allied forces in Europe in World War II.  It was created to fully maintain and fly four air squadrons in skillfully grouped formations of B-17 Flying Fortress Heavy Bombers. These formations were often interwoven with other Bomb Groups in the large coordinated efforts of the Mighty Eighth Air Force over the skies of Europe from 1942 – 1945.  The 95th Bomb Group executed their duties with precision and pride, and was awarded three Unit Citations for our valiant efforts.

After World II ended, the 95th airbase at Horham, England was closed and returned to farmland, and the veterans returned to the states. Years later, they began to re-connect with each other at the Mighty Eighth Air Force reunions.  It was at one of these reunions that a group of 95^th veterans decided to have reunions of their own, for the sole purpose of reuniting those who served in the 95th Bomb Group.

This idea led to them create the 95th Bomb Group (H) Association. which consisted only of veterans that had served in the 95th Bomb Group.   Throughout the years, the Association met regularly and created many memorials to honor 95th veterans who were lost in the war..

The veterans realized that in order for their legacy to continue, the next generation needed to become involved.  In 1995, the 95th Bomb Group Memorials Foundation, Inc. was formed, composed of family and friends of the 95th.  As more and more veterans left the formation, it was decided to disband the 95th BG Association, and consolidate the veterans and legacy members under the umbrella of the 95th Bomb Group Memorials Foundation, Inc.  The mission of the Foundation is to honor and maintain the connections and collected history of the 95th Bomb Group.  A primary focus is to maintain the memorials created by the veterans of the 95th BG Association.
