History - Missions

Missing Air Crew Reports (MACR)

Whenever a crew was lost on a mission, a Missing Air Crew Report was created.   These MACR's contained a report number, date, aircraft type, aircraft serial number, group if known, and squadron if known.   

MACR Example for the loss of Aircraft #42-30255 on 12/16/1943.   This aircraft was from the 95th BG, 412th BS (Lonesome Polecat II) piloted by Fred Delbern.

MACR 1558:  West of the target, with number 3 engine feathered, aircraft left the formation under control  -  3 KIA, 7 POW.

230176  - 401   At 1030, 60 miles north east of Antwerp, aircraft came under fighter attack             
230181  - 2258   After concentrated fighter attack and with the tail section on fire, aircraft left the formation in a dive; the tail section seperated             
230182  - 1562   Last seen near the coast with number 4 engine on fire, 6 parachutes were observed             
230185  - ????   Aircraft crashed on return             
230192  - 217   At about 0807, about 10 miles inland over Holland, and with Oxygen lines damaged, as well as 3 engines feathered because of flak damage, part of the crew bailed out over the continent, before it was decided to try for home, about 6 miles off Dover aircra

231632  - 4264   Shortly after the IP and with engine trouble from the very beginning of the mission, aircraft dropped behind the formation, bombing the target as planned, Interned at Dubendorf, Switzerland             
231658  - 2546   After the target aircraft was "knocked out" of formation and was last seen spinning earthward

231924  - 5343   Aircraft was damaged by German Fighters, then left formation under control             
23194  - 400   On returning from the mission, and damaged by flak, aircraft left the formation and exploded

232019  - 3803   Just prior to the target, with number 1 engine feathered, number 2 engine on fire, and a damaged right trailing wing edge, aircraft jettisoned the bombs and was under fighter attack when the crew began to bail out

23206  - 4404   Over target with 3 engines feathered and the tail section damaged by flak, Aircraft left formation under control.             
23264  - ????   Just before the target with number 1 and number 2 engines damaged by flak, aircraft left the formation under control             
23266  - ????   Upon return from the mission and within 20 miles of the English coast aircraft left the formation under control             
23267  - ????   On return from mission, Aircraft was so badly damaged that the crew had to ditch in the channel.  The crew was rescued and returned to duty.

48604  - ????   On return aircraft was involved in a midair collision when aircraft struck the underside of 48754 near the pilotös compartment shearing off the vertical stabilizer pilot W N Dunwoody ordered crew of 48604 to bail out aircraft CR at Campsea Ash             
48640  - ????   This aircraft came under anti-aircraft fire on the approach to the food drop zone, One engine was feathered due to flak damage and on the way back over the channel the aircraft was ditched
